Digital accessibility is becoming more and more important. With the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) a new legal regulation will come into force on May 28, 2025, which is intended to make digital offerings barrier-free. But what does that mean in practice? Who is affected? And which measures can be implemented? In this article, we answer all important questions and show how we contribute to digital accessibility with our solutions.
that BFSG implements the EU Accessibility Requirements for Products and Services (European Accessibility Act) into German law. It requires companies to make their digital offerings — from websites to apps to self-service terminals — barrier-free. The aim is to provide people with disabilities with equal access to digital services.
Not all companies are affected by the new regulation. The BFSG does not apply to purely commercial (B2B) offers. Micro-enterprises with fewer than ten employees and an annual turnover or an annual balance sheet total of a maximum of two million euros are also excluded from the requirements. Nevertheless, it is recommended that accessibility measures be implemented voluntarily to make digital content available to everyone.
Even though our solutions are not directly covered by the BFSG, we take accessibility very seriously. Our apps and web dashboards are based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure the best possible usability for all people. The WCAG comprises four key categories:
Although the solutions we offer are not directly affected by the BFSG, they can make an important contribution to meeting the new requirements. Our team has been working on the issue of accessibility for a long time, which is why our solutions are consistently developed and continuously improved in accordance with WCAG. These guidelines promote equality and establish proven methods for design, development, and content.
We apply these standards to our app solutions and web dashboards to ensure a high level of accessibility even without a legal obligation. Our goal is to offer all users an equal and convenient user experience.
In view of the entry into force of the BFSG on May 28, 2025, we are planning an app update to deliver further improvements in accordance with the Act. Many accessibility measures have been incorporated hrough our rebranding, but we are going one step further.
Accessibility is not a short-term trend, but an essential requirement for digital participation. Companies that invest in barrier-free solutions at an early stage not only benefit from a larger user base, but also make a valuable contribution to society.
